How Can A Chiropractor Help You?
How Can A Chiropractor Help?
RIGHT AFTER AN INJURY
When you first injure yourself, we call this an acute injury, it is important to know what to do. Putting ice on a fresh injury slows down your body’s ability to heal itself. Knowing when to add movement (pretty early on), and what to do for pain makes a huge difference. If you are looking for pain modulating modalities, a Chiropractor can help by using acupuncture, laser, electrical stimulation, gentle joint mobilizations, soft tissue mobilization, and basic rehabilitation exercises can all help lower pain. Some als help improve healing time, making a difference in the early stages of injury. Setting yourself up for success right after an injury may help avoid long term conditions.
FOR CHRONIC PAIN
Sometimes things that normally resolve on their own just won’t go away. For issues lasting greater than 3 months, we refer to them as chronic. Often chronic conditions need rehab to address insufficiencies and improve muscular capacity to deal with demands of both every day life and physically demanding hobbies/jobs. Typically prognosis decreases the greater the condition or pain is present. If your usual home remedies are not working for your long term aches and pains, a chiropractor will be able to offer a few other tools and ideas to add to your current list of strategies.
FEELING STIFF AND ACHEY
As a Chiropractor, we offer a lot of mobility work. We can mobilize joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, nerves, etc. We do this through hands on manual therapy as well as homework exercises based off the most current research. If you are feeling the need to get your body moving, a Chiropractor is a great place to start. Whether you need something more athletic and aggressive or gentle and progressive, let your needs and expectations be known and we will meet you where you are at.
GETTING BACK TO EXERCISE
Do you have a goal of getting back to doing a certain skill or hobby or athletic achievement? Do you want to run a half marathon or get back to dance class? As an athlete myself who has utilized the expertise of Chiropractors throughout my career, Chiropractors have guided me through injuries that come with more intense training. For example, when I tore my hamstring, my Chiropractor helped me get back to my full flexibility and strength through instrument assisted soft tissue work, laser, and specific exercises. Doing this alone as someone who relies on my body quite heavily would have been a lot more stressful without the same outcome. Support is often out there, and a Chiropractor is a great option when needing support when getting back to exercise.
FOR THAT ‘PINCH‘ IN YOUR NECK OR BACK
Sometimes we get a pinch in our neck, maybe just from waking up from sleeping wrong. Sometimes that pinch is felt in our ribs and makes breathing deeply difficult. For these pinchy moments in life, a Chiropractor can help get those restricted joints moving, and release that muscular tension caused by the lack of proper motion through that joint. Adjustments don’t have to be a part of a treatment plan, as joint mobilizations are also effective, but having options like both of these can make a huge difference.
When it comes down to it, our tools and expertise as Chiropractors include manual therapy, use of modalities, exercise science, postural biomechanics, and even some lifestyle counselling (we study biochemistry, nutrition, etc). Don’t be shy to direct your care to what you feel you need more. The days of letting your Chiropractor decide everything are over, we must take an active role in our own care and our own healthcare treatment plans. Reach out and start a conversation of how we can help you with your movement goals.
