Chiropractor stretching patient’s neck

Maintenance Care.

Depending on factors like lifestyle, activity level, and health history, maintenance care offers patients control over their own health.

Every patient typically finds their own interval of care to maintain health and take care of small aches and pains before they develop further. This can vary person to person, as well as fluctuate depending on how much exercise you are getting. By listening to our body when it tells us to go get some manual therapy we are maximizing our present and protecting our future.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is maintenance care different than acute injury management?

Maintenance care is less focussed on your one area of pain. During a maintenance care appointment, your therapist or Chiropractor will be looking more at how your body is functioning overall. We look for small, seemingly insignificant issues and resolve them before they persist.

How often do I need maintenance care?

Maintenance care should always be based off of your values and your lifestyle. When I am running a lot and lifting weights, I find I am needing more maintenance to keep me going. Also, when I take a longer break from training, I also find my body starts to show signs of aches and pains sooner. Whatever your reasoning is, talk to your manual therapist about increasing or decreasing frequency of appointments to find the right rhythm for you and your body.

Can I increase my maintenance care during more active times of the year?

Yes! During the summer months when we are busy being active outdoors, as well as during winter months when we are shovelling a lot of snow you may need a little more maintenance to keep you going.

During maintenance care appointments, can we still do rehab exercises?

Yes! No matter what your reason is for coming in to see us, we love giving you tools like stretching and strengthening exercises to make you feel better and function great! If you are looking to achieve certain physical goals, exercise is always going to be a key player in seeing those goals come to fruition.

Should I cancel my appointment if I’m not in much pain?

This depends on you. First, ensure you are following any cancellation policy. Second, sometimes manual therapy doesn’t have to be solely about your pain. We can always improve function and performance, helping your body move at its best. Sometimes its those maintenance care appointments that we discover a new way of looking at movement or a new way of expressing it!
