Frequently Asked Questions

How can Made To Move improve my flexibility?

If your goal is to improve flexility, Made To Move can work with you to provide passive treatment options to increase muscular and passive tissue flexibility using muscle release technique, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (SmartTools), nerve flossing, Functional Range Conditioning stretching techniques, and Pilates to increase mobility. Our goal is to determine which tissue(s) are limiting your range, and then to marry that will stability training to ensure you can use your new found range of motion safely and efficiently.

I want to improve my ballet technique at home, is this something Made To Move can do?

At Made To Move, one of the physical therapy exercise methods we use is called Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT). PBT was born out of the work a physical therapist was going with the Australian Ballet. PBT offers dancers both weight-bearing and non-weight bearing exercises to specifically improve classical ballet technique and control of motor patterns. Incorporating some PBT into your active care plan at home is a great way to reach your goals sooner with less risk of overuse injury from simply repeating a skill over and over.

My teacher talks about core a lot, is this something that can be addressed?

100% Yes, yes and always yes! We get excited about the core. Get ready to understand the anatomy of the core, the biomechanics of how it supports our spine and extremity movement, and how to effectively and efficiently use your core when executing choreography. At Made To Move, we often use Contemporary Pilates to improve core activation while incorporating breath and body movement. Come in and see why the dance community across the world has been using Pilates to improve their performance and function for decades.

Will there be an opportunity to demonstrate specific dance movement to have it checked?

Yes! We love seeing our patients move and dance. This helps us get to know you as a dancer and athlete and see where areas of improvement may lie. Always feel free to send Made To Move a link to recent performance or clas work. We also welcome dancers to demonstrate movement in clinic. For example, if you are getting hip pain on a grand battement, ronde de jambe en l’air, or coupé jété, we want to see that move and talk about what you are feeling and where. The more detailed we are, the more strategic our plan will be!

I have an upcoming show that requires me to learn a new skill or type of movement, can Made to Move help?

Often dancers are asked to go out of their comfort zone. Whether this is a new or special skill (silks, acrobatics, partnering), we are here to help you learn this and to prevent injuries along the way. New skills may require increased flexibility, strength, power, or coordination, all areas we work with patients depending on their goals. Don’t let a new skill you need stop you from booking that gig! Come in and get a plan that will increase efficiency, safety, and get you wowing audiences and audition panels as soon as possible!
